Yes, you can store your lures with leader and hooksets attached. We simply recommend you pull the hook set from the hook lock when rinsing and make sure to remove all saltwater residue and hang to dry before storage.

We would generally defer you to our HIGH SPEED TROLLING section of the site for high speed specific tackle. This lure is very versatile, it can be run in a number of locations in our trolling spread. However, we generally run it in the long rigger position. The angled face allows for the lure to climb to the surface, push water, then return subsurface to expel a bubble trail. Lures with plunger style or angled face profiles need less line angle to create the intended action, making them great long rigger baits. It will perform equally as well in short rigger, but we leave that for lures that require more line angle. We are generally trolling our medium lure spreads in the 7-9knt range, that can vary based off ocean conditions and current.

Most of our trolling lures are intended to be trolled with no ballyhoo or dead bait unless specified. Each lure head shape offers a unique swimming motion and action when run naked (without bait). We offer a pre-rigged version of this lure that is rigged an ready to fish, simply clip to your mainline and go. The Calico Jack Slant Large is super flexible on where it can be run, however the nose angle allows it to run really well even with low line angle (long rigger etc.) but can be run closer as well.

We typically run the Mo Head Chugger Large in the short rigger position. This will allow the trolling lure the correct amount of line angle for optimum performance. With an aggressive concave nose, this lure will hold air longer, creating a more dramatic bubble trail, then returning to the surface to breathe.

We recommend fishing this trolling lure in the short rigger position. The concave face requires some line angle to keep the lure re-surfacing every few seconds as opposed to a slant face lure which can be run further back. If you don't have outriggers, simply run this lure straight to the rod tip in your spread and don't pin it down like a flat line.

The length of the mini skirt is approx 3.5" when the hair is laid back as it would swim. 7.5" in diameter when sitting flat on a table. Currently this is the only size we offer, but a larger size is a great idea and I will pass it along to the team for review.

That's a great question, and if you ask 100 different Captains you may get 99 different answers. Its a personal preference. Typically we would run a similar color, as to make it appear as if it simply fell behind the school. However, some also suggest running a different color makes the trailer stand out, and is more likely to get hit. Or, appearing as if the school is being chased, eliciting a feeding response. We've had good success with both on the agitator bar.

The Fathom Trolling Lance hook has a larger profile and a thicker wire gauge used for all types of trolling lures / hooksets where you are not using bait (however, this has become a favorite hook for swordfish rigging due to its strong thick wire). The long shank ballyhoo hooks are overall smaller and used for rigging ballyhoo. The thin wire of the Ballyhoo hook allows for easier rigging of bait without the damage that would be caused by a larger wire gauge.
