What is the length of the squid?

Answer:

The SR20 squid is 7" in total length. This dredge is un-weighted in order to keep it as light as possible, however you would want to use a dredge weight to keep it sub surface.

What is the trolling speed for this dredge? How much weight to keep it under the water?

This teaser squid dredge is perfect for dead bait and light lure trolling speeds of 5-7knts. At this speed, a 6lb fish will keep it in the water, if your working with hand lines or smaller dredge gear, you could get away with a 4lb weight at the slower speeds. Answer:

Great question: if your looking to use this dredge specifically for Mahi, I would recommend the Green. While Mahi will come to other dredge colors, we go back to the schooling mentality of a Mahi. They typically hunt and swim in schools, which is why people will often leave a dolphin on the line when chunking, it keeps the other dolphin close. Same with a Mahi colored dredge. Pink has always been a solid producer for us as well, as it mimics a natural squid color, a food of choice for dolphin and most other pelagics.

The weight and length on the SR squids are as follows:
SR20 - 7" - 1.3oz
SR30 - 9" - 2.3oz
SR40 - 12" - 6.4oz

Really depends on how fast you are going, however under normal trolling conditions the 4lb to 6lb fish weight would be sufficient to keep the 12x12 dredge subsurface.

The SR squids do not have an exterior channel, however they do have a hollow interior that allows for rigging. They are often rigged individually for trolling / green stick baits.

How much weight do you recommend to keep this down in water

The answer depends on conditions and trolling speed, however a 4-6lbs (6lb being most common) coated dredge fish is the most popular choice for this dredge. If you are trolling faster or conditions are rough, it may require additional weight.

The weight needed for a dredge has several variables including speed and distance back in the spread. However, as a general rule, we recommend at least an 8lb lead fish weight for the triple tier dredges.

The single tier chandelier style dredges do not come with a bag in order to keep the cost as low as possible for our customers. We do offer a dredge storage bag for those that would like one, it can be found HERE.

Most often the vivid squid chain is trolled as a teaser with some type of trailing lure, flap or dead bait (Spanish Mackerel.) However you could put a rigged bait behind this chain of your choosing and fish from a rod as opposed to a teaser reel. We do have people who rig the individual Vivid squids with an egg sinker and cable hookset to troll individually as a lure or green stick bait.

Standard our squid chains are rigged on 150# and 250# mono, however, if you have a specific request we can usually accommodate it. In this case, YES, we can rig a squid chain on 400# mono. Squid chains can be used as a teaser for a variety of species, including Tuna. If you are looking for rigged baits, and will be specifically targeting smaller to mid size tuna such as Albacore, Blackfin or Bonita, check out our Mini Skirt Chain.

All of our Pre-Rigged No Tangle dredges come with SR30 squids. The SR30 is 9" in length.

The flap teaser chain is fully rigged and ready to fish. We are pulling this from our teaser reels the same way we would pull a squid teaser chain. If you do not have teaser reels, you can run this as a teaser from your outriggers straight to a rod, but you will want to be able to quickly take the chain from a teased fish in order to either pitch it a bait, or present a hooked lure to eat. This is a teaser only, and a really effective one at that!

Typically with a dredge of this size we would recommend at-least an 8lbs fish weight, however depending on sea conditions and trolling speed, a 10lbs may be preferred.
